Bee Newham, fashion stylist
Meet bee, independent fashion stylist based in Nottingham. She tells us about her experience and timeless approach to style. We share with Bee the same purpose of turning fashion from overwhelming to effortless.
Hi Bee, can you tell us the projects you typically work on as a stylist?
I have an MA in International Fashion Business and a background in luxury fashion, and have styled celebrities, runways and dressed models for international photo shoots.
However, my favourite people to dress are modern women, who often feel overwhelmed with fashion and struggle to know how to navigate their own wardrobes.
My clients definitely keep me busy both through work and on social media, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
My job is very demanding, whether offline or on social media, but I wouldn't change a thing!
How do you find the balance between work and play as a self-employed stylist?
I love my job and because of this often find it difficult to know when to stop. But I find time for myself through exercise, seeing friends and family and travelling.
How would you describe your style?
I would say classic with a twist. I dress quite minimally but I love adding interest through different textures and prints like leather, stripes and leopard. I also love adding a vintage piece to every outfit. Whether that be through a vintage leather jacket or a fabulous vintage bag.
What are your 3 words?
Classic, polished and parisienne.
Who are your style icons/inspirations?
It has to be my Mum, Grandma, and Great Grandma. I come from a long line of glamorous women and they always inspire me. My Grandma is 95 and always puts so much thought and care into how she looks. She is amazing!
Which is your favorite piece in your closet?
It has to be my black vintage Chanel Double Flap bag. I bought it for my 30th birthday and it is my most prized possession.
But for sentimental reasons I love my navy wool coat from my Grandma and a chunky gold necklace from my Great Grandma.
“I dress quite minimally but I love adding interest through different textures and prints like leather, stripes and leopard.”
What is your favorite Facettes style?
It is so hard to choose as I love everything! But I think it has to be the monica vest in navy and the black lauren wool blazer.
Any tip on how you take good care of your clothes so they last longer?
I think it’s important to look after your clothes as soon as you buy them. Make sure you store and wash them properly, and always hang everything up at the end of the day. It will add years onto your clothes.
I always encourage my clients to use velvet hangers when hanging their clothes. You can fit more in your wardrobe with velvet hangers, and it keeps everything uniform.
Make sure you spray any leather and suede items like shoes and handbags, with waterproof spray before wearing them. Also having a cobbler add rubber soles to your leather shoes will help them to last longer.
It’s also worth investing in a good cashmere comb and knitwear shaver to remove any bobbles on jumpers.
Finally, have items like coats and jackets dry cleaned at the end of the season. Spring is a great time to have everything cleaned ready for the following autumn.
