What are the different types of wool?
Virgin wool is sheared from sheep.
Delaine wool comes from the skins of sheep destined for the food industry.
Recycled wool comes from used and recycled products.
We only use already woven virgin wool, sourced from rolls of deadstock fabrics of major luxury houses.
Warp and weft vs. knit: wool is a fiber
Wool is a natural fiber that can be processed into either warp and weft or knitted fabrics.
What are the different wool fabrics?
Depending on their thickness and weaving method, there are many different types of wool fabric, with different aspects and properties.
Cold wool: wool gabardine, grain de poudre, wool twill, wool twill, super 100, super 120 and super 150. These fabrics are finer and more supple. They have the advantage of being breathable and thermoregulating: they retain heat in the winter and evacuate it in the summer. The difference in quality depends on the refinement of the fibers used. A “super 150” or “super 120” wool will be finer than a “super 100” wool.
Thicker wools: wool flannel, wool broadcloth, wool tweed, wool tartan, wool felt, wool jacquard, wool crepe. These fabrics are thicker and made for the cold season. They remain breathable and only need to be aired to evacuate bad odors.

The wool tuxedo jacket: a must-have for formal occasions
Tuxedos are traditionally made from wool grain de poudre, also known as “barathea wool”. It’s a noble fabric with a matte appearance, woven from delicately combed wool yarns, sometimes mixed with mohair. It’s the fabric par excellence for tuxedos, tailcoats and evening blazers. We only choose grains de poudre from leftover fabrics of major houses, made from 100% wool.
Wool gabardine is also often used for tuxedo jackets: we chose an off-white wool gabardine for our two-tone white tuxedo with its black silk satin collar.
